Your Stories - Wet Wraps

Wet Wraps - we couldn't manage without them - Jacqui, Knaresborough, UK

My son has used wet wraps for 6 years now, and we couldn't manage without them. We have our good and bad days still, but the main benefit is that when he's feeling tickly, even if he goes to scratch the bandages prevent him from breaking the skin, which in turn reduces the amount of skin infections that he gets. (October 2006)

Wet Wraps and lots and lots of cream - Laura, Birmingham, UK

I don't know whether this works or not (I've only just started doing this myself) but if you slap (and I mean slap) on the cream, without rubbing it in, and put bandages round the affected areas (arms or legs in particular) this will not only stop you or your child scratching, but lock in the moisture of the cream. If you do this at night (preferably, so no-one notices) this should help the cream do its job. I hope this helps. (April 2002)

Wet Wraps, Oilatum Plus and Tea Tree Oil - Anthonette, London, UK

My 18-month-old son has severe eczema and multiple food allergies. He has to wear wet wraps 24 hours a day. He was really prone to skin infections until my husband had a great idea. When we soak the wet bandages we add some of his Oilatum Plus and some tea tree oil to the water and since we started doing that he hasn't had a single skin infection. Obviously this is only of help to people using wet wraps!!
