Your Stories - Shampoo and Scalp Treatment

Sensitive H&S - Julie, Gravesend, UK

My 3½ year old daughter has terrible eczema on her head and every shampoo I used used to make it worse. The only thing I could use to keep it under control was the Sensitive H&S. A friend recommended that I tried 'Rooibos' (or Red Bush to you and I) shampoo which is a south African product. Red Bush claims to have anti inflammatory properties to it and is high in anti-oxidants. I'm now on my second bottle of this shampoo and I can't believe the difference. Not only does her hair look lovely and clean and shiny, it also gets out all the greasy creams that I have put on her during the day. Fabulous product but it does contain a mild perfume which may not be suitable for all (http://www.annique.com/products/baby/babyhome.php)
The tea is lovely to and calms from within! (February 2008) Contact Julie

DermaSmoothes Scalp Oil - Deirdra, Maryland, US

This e-mail is in response to a message posted in the most recent newsletter. The person was telling about the the problems they were having with their scalp. Well, about a year ago my doctor prescribed to me a scalp oil called DermaSmoothes. It worked wonders . Its a very thin oil almost like baby oil. It took away the constant itch, cracking, and extreme flaking of my scalp. It was so soothing. As directed by my doctor and not the directions on the product, I applied it daily as an oil. It immediately began to reduce the discomfort. In about two to three days the inflammation was gone as well as the cracking. All the the dry patches had flaked completed off and the affected areas of my scalp appeared renewed. Every so often if I feel these symptoms coming on, I apply this oil and it starts working instantly before it becomes a problem. I hope this helps you. (June 2005) Contact Deirdra

My treatment for sebhoerric eczema - Simon, West Midlands

If you've got sebhoerric dermatitis talk to your doc about long-term antibiotics, as its linked to acne. Think it's helping me! Also, wash with a normal shower gel and apply a generous amount of emollient. Keep steroid use to a minimum because after a while it will make your skin more sensitive [ouch], so try using it for 3 days or less if u possibly can!! Try washing in quite salty water too (but make sure u rinse thoroughly). Oh and don't try a sunbed - cos it made mine ten times worse for a week!!! GOOD LUCK! if u need any more help I'm on the contacts Find a Friend section.

Itchy scalp - Rasmus, Copenhagen, Denmark

I had been suffering from flaky, itchy scalp for roughly 8 months, the prescribed shampoo (Nizoral 2%) did nothing for me. As a last resort I decided to cut off my hair. During the following shower I was able to gently scratch/rub off the flakes and dead skin that had been causing me such grievance. After the shower I rubbed some lotion in my scalp. The result is amazing, no more itching no more scratching, a reborn scalp.

Bettamousse - Rohana

Alot of people who have eczema experience that it spreads to their hair (this is definately the WORST, it was especially for me as I wear a hijaab) and I had this problem for a long time. My dermatologist gave me this can of mousse called called BETTAMOUSSE, ask your doc to prescribe you some as its (yay!) one of the very few un-messy stuff u can get for eczema that actually works. Its a mousse, like normal hair-mousse, and u spray it on the dry areas in your scalp, and it really does help. It does contain steroids, but they thing is, it works v.fast, so if u use a little, it really helps.
