My eczema is not cured, I don't know if it ever will be, I still have it (partly) on my face, my neck, stomach, back and arms and bits on my legs, but I also know that my treatment hasn't come to an end.

I have found over the past few months of taking homeopathy that my skin has improved hugely on my face and chest. This is what it said is meant to happen, because the remedy flushes the illness from your system and it moves down your body. It involves treating "like for like," like a vaccination, so you may also experience that it becomes worse for a while at the beginning. This is said to be good because it indicates that you are reacting to the remedy. You may also have to try out a few remedies before you found the "right" one.

I am by no means preaching here, just wanting to share with everyone that I cannot believe how much better my skin feels. Sometimes I just sit and feel the skin on my face for ages because I haven't had "normal" skin for so long and it feels amazing not having to moisturise constantly or wanting to cry with frustration every minute.

I don't know how homeopathy works ... to be honest I am still critical of it, but I believe it is good to try everything that you can before giving in to medical treatments that can be dangerous. I was adamant that I didn't want to take Cyclosporin, an immunosuppressant which was prescribed to me. This way I feel so much better about it being something natural, and something that finally appears to be helping me when I had almost lost hope. (March 2007) Contact Lindsay

Homeopathy helped my eczema - Adrianna, London, UK

I too had exhausted modern medicine with my own eczema. I had it all over my face and arms, incredibly itching and weeping, and my emotions were at an all time low. I was absolutely desperate and would have tried anything.
I went to a homeopath and it started to ease immediately. It took some time to get to the root of the problem, and in my case it was a mixture of stress and food allergies. I am now eczema free and was so pleased with the treatment, I went on to study and become a homeopath. It does work and I highly recommend you try it. (April 03)

I just wanted to share our knowledge with you. My daughter Jasmine, has had eczema since she was 18 months old (she's now 4). We have tried wet wraps, zinc paste bandages, twice daily baths, olive oil, porridge oats a variety of creams and products and have had no joy. A friend of ours recommended we visit the Royal Homeopathic Hospital in London, where we have been going since last year. We have certainly seen an improvement. I remember when Jasmine had it so bad, I would have to peel her socks off for her baths as they would get stuck to her wet, weeping legs. She's still not 100 percent, but much better, and are informed of what the treatments are, (we went to a homeopath locally that wouldn't disclose what she was giving to anyone).We have been seeing a lady called Dr Maryisa Krateminos. Homeopathy - I had sever eczema since childhood and nothing worked, nothing helped at all - all the steroid creams the doctor prescribed just made it worse when I stopped using them, the emollients for the bath hurt so much, getting tied up in bandages as a small child to stop me from scratching, and the agony of raw skin. I tried Chinese Herbal Medicine a couple of years ago which did help the eczema a great deal, however it ended up giving me severe stomach problems not to mention the horror of having to boil twigs and leaves and drink the liquid...I then went to a homeopath about 4 months ago and my eczema is only left on my lower legs, and it is so much calmer than ever before. This is because the homeopathy drives the illness (whatever it may be) out down through the body - I would never have believed it except I have experienced it moving from my face, neck, upper body etc. It is being quite stubborn and staying around the lower leg area, but there are 20 years of eczema to push out of my body!

I note the earlier post that the eczema must get worse before it gets better. Unfortunately I know this to be true, but it truly is worth it. Imagine the condition to be a little monster, who is putting up a fight when you are fighting back! It has to give in! I had tried many many things my whole life for my terrible, dragging condition. I highly recommend homeopathy, not just for eczema, as many other conditions I had have also been alleviated and I feel much better than I have done in many years.

In addition to homeopathy, make sure to keep your skin moisturised, even when there is no eczema. I have fallen into that trap, because it feels so free to wake up in the morning or go to bed at night without covering yourself in lotions! But just sensibly moisturise to keep the dry skin at bay, when your skin has cleared up.

Homeopathy didn't work for me - Christi, Nashville, TN, USA

I have had eczema since I was in the 4th grade, I am now 32. It has progressively gotten worse. I went to a homeopathic doctor on a friends advice (his son had it). I will tell you, I thought eczema was bad ... never have I felt such pain. I called her often and was told it was the toxins cleansing out of my system ... and yeah I actually believed it (laugh now). I went through this pain for weeks (3 and 1/2). I was told to stop one thing, but she contacted me 2 days later telling me she forgot to tell me to stop it all ... so I did. Now I planned a vacation to see my nephew for his 1st b-day ... missed it! Finally, my entire family, friends and people I worked with MADE me go to a dermatologist. I walked in red as a beat, swollen with at least 10 extra pounds ... I looked gross ... needless to say they took me without an appointment. I had a horrid case of eczema and hives I was almost in anaphylactic shock ... Just a note to let you all know to be careful. I laugh now, but I have never experienced such pain in my life. I was also one of the ugliest sites you could see. My new Dr (one good thing met a great DR) didn't recognize me on my follow up, and I had lost 10 pounds very quickly! (July 01)

Homeopathy and French moisturiser - Sandra, Berkshire, UK

My son Charlie developed full blown eczema when he was 3 months old. I was loath to use the steroids that the doctors kept giving me. I found a really good homeopath who supplies me with a cream which helps when he has a flare up but struggled for months to find an emollient that suited him for everyday use. My mum found an emollient over in France which changed our lives. Whilst it has not cured Charlie's eczema - what does - it has stopped him itching so much and has made his skin softer and not so dry. Mum was going on regular trips to France for me and doing an emollient run! But I have now found out that you can obtain it in large Boots chemists. Well worth a try. (June 01)

Homeopathy worked for our son - Sally, Nottingham, UK

I have just been reading the article in the Observer today (27/5/01). The photo of the girl who used to look as if she had been in a fire reminded me so much of my second son at that age. It was a nightmare. He also had intermittent asthma. I was very dissatisfied with our treatment, our GP tried his best but didn't share my desperation to reduce Sam's misery. I also didn't fancy steroid cream for his face and we decided to seek an alternative. After talking to various friends we took him to a homeopath, not convinced it would do any good but game for anything. By this time Sam was 3. He had treatment which was traumatic, it heightened his symptoms for a short period but had been warned this would happen, I stuck with it and after about three treatments, done about monthly he was free of the rash. We considered it miraculous. After a reasonable time we took him back to deal with the asthma and it worked too. He has never had asthma since and has only suffered the most minor out breaks of eczema on rare occasions. I would recommend anyone to try it, unfortunately it costs a bit but the practitioner we went to did a reduced rate for kids which covered the entire treatment. Sam is now 15 and can still remember the misery of eczema and how he was cured. Try it! (May 01)

OK, I tried everything to rid myself of eczema. Nothing worked, and if it did begin to work, it soon came back! I was at my wit's end. I had lost so many of the 'best year's of my life'. I stumbled across a health clinic in Western Australia. I was very skeptical but gave it a go. Six months ago I was covered in severe eczema from head to toe. My energy levels were almost zero. I had lost a lot of weight because it seemed that everything I ate I reacted to. I cried every day and my partner and family had almost given up on me. I had to leave yet another job so I was broke too. Today I am sitting here typing this wearing a bikini top and sarong! There are no skin flakes covering the keyboard and no spots of blood to clean up. The itching has gone. I can concentrate. My skin is beautiful and soft. I have suffered with eczema since birth. I've tried everything! I believe it is caused by various different things happening at different times in our lives. My latest healing discovery is homeopathy, namely 'sulphur' tablets and 'graphites' it works wonders for me!
