Flaxseed/Fish Oil/Cod Liver Oil - The Wisharts, UK
My son has suffered from eczema from birth. We always had to lather him in aqueous cream, Diprobase and hydrocortisone to improve his skin. However, it still looked unsightly and gave him discomfort. At 3 years old I started to give him different branded, high street fish oil/ cod liver oil and flax seed oil for the recent claims that it improves concentration etc. I continued these cheaper brands until he was about 5. Then I heard about a highly concentrated pure fish oil for kids called Morepa mini. It claimed that one capsule was equivalent to 6 capsules of a commercial brand. I purchased Morepa from an Internet site. Within a few months it was his skin (not his concentration) that improved vastly. No more crying through pain and itching at night. After 6 months his scabs had gone and I didn't even have to moisturize his skin! I know it is the higher dosed fish oil that cured him because (he is 9 now) whenever I get lazy and stop the fish oil the dry patches and itching (and interrupted sleep) reoccurs. It has changed our lives. (November 2007)
Flaxseed Oil helped my Elbows - Todd, Alaska, USA
While overseas as a contractor, I injured the ligaments in both elbows. Over a period of several months I received three shots of cortisone (in my elbows) which did nothing for me. I was at the end of my rope and so were the doctors. I could not open doors, wash my hair or carry anything without it feeling like ice picks were being jammed into my elbows. Having nothing to lose, I starting taking flaxseed oil because I read that it has anti-inflamatory properties. I started with the pills but soon found that I needed to buy flaxseed oil in bulk not only to save money but it made it easier to take the 3 tablespoons 3 times a day. A week and half later the eczema on the face (small patches around my nose) and on my trunk (chest and side) was gone. What a side effect! I was taking it for my elbows and my skin cleared up. I could see the redness (inflamation) slowly going down the same way it does with topical cortisone. I was thrilled not only that my elbows felt perfect but that my eczema was being suppressed. I went back to the orthopedic doctors to tell them about this and how they should prescribe flaxseed oil first before going with the needles in the joints and guess what. He didn't want hear it. He looked at me and said "That's nice" and went back to writing. I was shocked that he didn't care. But I guess there is more money in needles than in the oil from some plant.
I have to take alot of it for it work. 2 to 3 tablespoons with meals 3 times a day or 4 to 6 1000 mg softgel caps 3 times a day with meals. Try it. It keeps my eczema in check. Good luck. (December 2006)
Flaxseed Oil for Scalp Eczema - Mallory, Asheville, USA
Hello, I am 20 years old and have been suffering from severe Atopic dermatitis since I was an infant. I've tried everything from steroid treatments to antibiotics and have had no semi- permanent relief from traditional medicine. I have recently been seeing a homeopathic doctor and have started to see great results. The key to treating eczema is to treat the person as a whole by building up the immune system instead of suppressing it. I have had a reoccurring problem with eczema on my scalp and have found amazing relief in flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil can be applied directly to the scalp and taken orally. When applied to the scalp, it provides immediate relief. I am eager to educate other eczema sufferers on the great benefits of this wonderful oil. Please post this letter for others to view. Thank you, Mallory. (September 2006) Contact Mallory
