A wide range of cosmetics contain preservatives (eg parabens) and lanolin. Allergic reaction to parabens is relatively uncommon, but a large proportion of people suffer from allergy to lanolin. Lanolin is derived from sheeps wool and gives cosmetic creams a pleasant feel.
Some cosmetics contain fragrances to give them a pleasant smell. These can cause irritation to eczema sufferers, so it is better to buy fragrance free products.
If you are unsure whether a particular cosmetic is suitable, it is advisable to do a patch test. This will show whether you are allergic to a particular products.
