Eczema Care - POEM (Patient Orientated Eczema Measure)

POEM (Patient Orientated Eczema Measure) was developed by Dermatologists at The Department of Dermatology, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham and published in the Archives of Dermatology to develop a simple, valid, repeatable, and readily understandable patient-oriented assessment measure for monitoring disease activity in children and adults with atopic eczema.

The UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has recommended POEM as a valid way of measuring how eczema affects individual patients. Using a simple set of 7 questions, patients or their families can create a POEM score to see how bad the eczema really is. Also, the effectiveness of any treatment regime can be tracked over time by repeating the questions at intervals and tracking any changes in the overall score.
